Basta Texas is launching a Sounds of Resistance song contest, calling on musicians of all styles to submit a song that celebrates our communities, the courage of immigrant families, and the power of local struggles. A panel of musicians and producers will select one song as the winner to receive a $1,000 cash prize. The winning song will be shared across the country through NDLON, Jolt, and Texas Basta Texas social media platforms. In addition, NDLON will work with the artist/s to produce a music video to share the song. Submissions are due at midnight January 10, 2018 Eastern Standard Time.
Sounds of Resistance
Eligibility / Age Requirement: The contest is open to all persons over 14 years of age, professional artist or not, and regardless of immigration status or nationality. Employees of NDLON and Jolt, and their family members, are not eligible. If participant is younger than 18 years old, parent or guardian signature is required.

– You can upload the song in MP3 or other format
There is NO cost to participate. Material that is submitted will not be returned, and we are not responsible for lost, stolen, delayed, or damaged material.
Who can submit proposals: There must be an individual that submits the song. Although the song can be the product of an individual or collective effort, there must be one point of contact that will be the point of contact for all matters.
The Work Must Be Original / Copyright Rules: All submissions must be original compositions and 100% owned by the participants, and should not infringe upon the authorship or other rights of third parties. We reserve the right to request proof that your entry is an original song. Non-compliance with this rule will be a disqualification of your entry. Participants retain all copyrights of their work without exception. By entering this art competition, you are granting us a non-exclusive perpetual license to reproduce your song.
Repeat Entries / Multiple Submissions: There is no restriction in entering a song that has been entered to previous competitions. For multiple submissions, it’s preferred for all songs to be placed on the same MP3 file. Likewise, there are no restrictions to the number of contests an artist can submit work to, nor the number of pieces they can submit, nor the number of prizes they can win.
Submission Deadlines: All proposals must be submitted by January 10, 2018. The winner will be announced on the #BastaTexas website in the month of January. Songs can be submitted up until midnight Eastern Standard Time on the last day of the submission schedule posted. No submissions will be accepted past the posted deadline. We reserve the right to extend the deadline.
Winner / Prize Payments: Winner will be selected by a 3-judge panel of musicians and producers. Submissions will be judged based on melody, composition, originality, and effectiveness in conveying a message. Production and recording quality is not part of the judges criteria. Cash prizes will be paid through PayPal or by check mailed to the winner within 14 days of the notification of winning.
Taxes: Winners shall be solely responsible for all federal, state, and local taxes.
